Phenotypic and Genetic Factors Affecting on Reproductive Lifetime of Lori-Bakhtiari Ewes
author
Abstract:
In this study phenotypic and genetic factors affecting the reproductive efficiency of Lori-Bakhtiari ewes were determined using 8202 reproductive records of 2478 ewes collected at Shooli research station in the southwestern part of Iran (Shahrekord) during 1989 to 2012. Reproductive efficiency over all consecutive lambing opportunities were calculated by adding the total reproductive efficiency traits per ewe joined for all of the parturition opportunities. Reproductive traits included in the current study were: number of parity (NP), total number of lambs born (TNLB), total number of lambs weaned (TNLW), total of lambs birth weight (TLBW), total of lambs weaning weight (TLWW), total of lambs weaning weight per kg ewe body weight (TLWW/EBW) and total of lambs weaning weight per kg metabolic ewe body weight (TLWW/MEBW). The data set analyzed with multi-trait animal model included the fixed effects of birth year of ewe, number of parturition in ewe's lifetime, ewe body weight as covariate and random effects direct additive genetic and residual. The overall mean of NP, TNLB, TNLW, TLBW, TLWW, TLWW/EBW and TLWW/MEBW were 3.31, 3.31, 3.21, 16.51 kg, 87.31 kg, 1.51 and 4.16, respectively. The effect of non-genetic factors were significant for all investigated traits in this study (P

estimation of genetic, environmental and phenotypic trends for economic lifetime of the lori-bakhtiari ewes
in this study, the number of 1802 longevity records of ewes collected during 1989 to 2010 in breeding station of lori-bakhtiari sheep flocks were used to estimate of genetic, environmental and phenotypic trends for economic lifetime. the breeding values of a ewe’s lifetime were estimated by restricted maximum likelihood procedure under an animal model of univariate analysis. the best linear unb...
full textPhenotypic and Genetic Analysis of Lori-Bakhtiari Lamb's Weight at Different Ages for Autosomal and Sex-Linked Genetic Effects
The data set used in this study contained 8793 records of lamb's weight (kg) from 320 sires and 2349 dams collected during 1989 to 2014 from the Lori-Bakhtiari flock at Shooli station in Shahrekord, Iran. Non-genetic factors and genetic parameters (partitioned into autosomal, sex-linked and maternal) of lamb's weight at different ages were estimated using without and with sex-linked genetic eff...

records of 2593 baluchi ewes, obtained from baluchi sheep breeding station in abbas abad, mashhad, were used to estimate genetic parameters for total weight of lamb weaned per ewe joined (tww/wj) in different parities. estimates of heritability for tww1/ej, tww2/ej, tww3.ej and tww4/ej were 0.112 ? 0.030, 0.028 ? 0.030, 0.075 ? 0.060 and 0.135 ? 0.120, respectively. direct additive genetic corr...
full textNon-Genetic Factors Affecting Stillbirth and its Effects on Longevity, Production, and Reproductive Performance in Holstein Cows of Iran
The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting stillbirth and the consequences of stillbirth on longevity, production, and reproductive performance in Holstein cows of Iran. Calving records from March 2000 to April 2009 comprising of 220,043 calvings on 102,199 cows in 33 herds were used. The results showed that 4.06% of the newborn calves died within 48 h of birth. The stillbirth...
full textA Survey on Prevalence and Pathological Findings of Gallstones in Lori-Bakhtiari Sheep in Iran
In a survey of 430 Lori-Bakhtiari sheep at a slaughterhouse in Iran, gallstones were found in the gallbladder of 7 sheep (1.6%). Biliary calculi were more frequent in adult and female sheep (P < 0.05). Chemical analysis of the gallstones revealed 6 sheep with pigment (bilirubin) stones and 1 sheep with cholesterol stones. Chemical composition of bile in these sheep was evaluated. Bacteriologic ...
